Monte Carlo, June 21, 2023 - Last night at the 62nd Festival de Télévision Monte-Carlo, the international thriller series THE SEED received two awards: The co-production by Odeon Fiction, ARD Degeto and NRK received both the award for "Best Création" - the jury prize for the best overall creative achievement - and the audience award "Prix Public Betaseries." The awards are among the most prestigious in international television.
Christoph Pellander, Editorial Director of ARD Degeto: "We would like to congratulate all the creators and creatives who worked on THE SEED. Our thanks go especially to our colleagues at Odeon and NRK. THE SEED is fictional entertainment at the highest international level: exciting, with a top cast and dedicated to a highly topical subject - the fight for food. We look forward to broadcasting it on the German public broadcaster Das Erste and ARD Mediathek in winter 2023."
About THE SEED: A missing young man, Victor, an environmental activist and journalist, vanished somewhere in the vast wilderness of northern Norway, triggers a police hunt that threatens to overthrow global systems of power. German detective Max Grosz (Heino Ferch), Victor’s uncle, and his Norwegian colleague Thea Koren’s (Ingrid Bolsø Berdal) search leads them into a tangled web of international business schemes and highest-level political intrigue. From the desolate Arctic wastes of Spitsbergen, home to the Svalbard Global Seed Vault, to Europe’s gleaming cities, the secrets they expose one after the other bring them up against ruthless multinational agro-chemical corporations, transnational political bodies and those shadowy masters of brinksmanship pulling the strings in the background, all of whom will stop at nothing to gain the ultimate control over humanity — the very food that we eat.
The thriller series is directed by Alexander Dierbach (“Line of Separation”). Axel Hellstenius and Christian Jeltsch (“Tatort”), who is also creator and head writer, wrote the screenplays.
THE SEED is a Odeon Fiction production in co-production with ARD Degeto and NRK in association with REIN FILM, MIA Film and PolarX Film. Odeon Fiction’s Britta Meyermann (“Spy City”) is producer. Executive producers are Christoph Pellander and Sebastian Lückel for ARD Degeto and Elisabeth Tangen for NRK. Director of photography is Ian Blumers (“Stralsund”, “Wolfsland”). THE SEED is supported by FilmFernsehFonds Bayern, Czech Film Fund, German Motion Picture Fund, Creative Europe MEDIA of the European Union and Filmfond Nord. LEONINE Studios handles world sales.
